Welcome to 1984! During this time the Corvette saw its most major update since the '63 stingray. The all-new '84 Corvette roared out of the gate with a 96.2-inch wheelbase, featured a more spacious interior and simply put, better all-around engineering. In fact, the changes to the new Corvette were so extensive that Chevy needed an extra year to prepare the factory for its build (hence no 1983 Corvette). The new '84 Corvette came with all-new mechanical features like a completely revised transmission, suspension and steering (rack-and-pinion).
As the years went on so did the Corvette. The remainder of the '80s saw improved horsepower, the return of the convertible ('86), larger tires and cosmetic improvements. The '90s were a true milestone, thanks in no small part to the introduction of the Chevy Corvette ZR-1. Below you'll find a few more interesting facts about the 4th generation Chevy Corvette.
